MAIDUGURI, Nigeria – Local officials report that at least seven people where killed when a bomb that was targeted at a taxi exploded in northeastern Nigeria
First reported by the Associated Press, Bello Dambatta, who is an emergency response official, says that six were killed at the scene of Wednesday’s attack and another person died while at a hospital. Dambatta says at least four more people were also injured.
At this time it is not clear on whether or not the bomb was actually planted on the taxi cab or if maybe a passenger set off the bomb inside the car. The bomb exploded at a nearby gas station as the taxi approached.
Northeastern Nigeria is the epicenter of Boko Haram’s seven-year uprising that has claimed more than 20,000 lives.
Maiduguri city had been spared deadly bombings in recent months as soldiers were able to shoot suicide attackers before they reached their targets.
